July 21, 2010 Facebook claims 500 million users. The average user is on Facebook 23 hours and 20 minutes per month and is now connected to 80 pages, groups and events (Media Week, 2010). English is the most popular language on Facebook with 331 million users, Spanish has 68 million users and French has 23 million users (insidefacebook.com/ July 31, 2010)

Quantcast estimates that 130 million Facebbok users are in the United States as of August 2010. Facebook has doubled active users since the beginning of January 2009. Remember that Facebbok began only in 2004. Facebook was originally only open to college students and for the first several years had a bland template that was eventually replaced by more creative design by the active users or audience. In the United Staes, demographic shows that 55% of users are female, 42% are between 18 -34 years, and are more affluent than the average person (Quantcast, 2010). The average age of the Facebook user is 38 years old (Pingdom, 2010).
